As part of the SMART Framework that combines citizen science, community-based participatory research, and systems science, integrated knowledge translation is an essential component. Youth citizen scientists and community members are central to this process, where evidence is co-created and exchanged continuously.
Youth have a voice to contribute to the SMART Platform for policy solutions through digital engagement. Using smartphones to engage youth allows us to gain their unique perspective through photos, stories, and responses in real-time. This engagement allows us to constantly evaluate and shape the format of the SMART Platform in order to meet the needs of communities.
SMART Indigenous Youth, an initiative that is part of the SMART Platform, is an ideal example of knowledge mobilization in collaboration with key stakeholders, including youth, educators, school administrators, Elders, and community members in rural and remote areas.
